The Mentalist
Mentalist [Men-tl-ist]: A person who believes that the mind and it's functions are alegitimate area of psychological research. But I'm not talking about the occupation and it's duties, I'm talking about "The Mentalist" TV show. If you love mystery and crime story like I do, then you would love this show. It's not like CSI where science is answer to the key but more of detective work that comes with the work. It's almost like watching Colombo with little humor added to it. Let's get into details, shall we?
Written by Bruno Heller, show's main story is about the man name Patrick Jane(Played by Simon Baker) who use to be a well known physic who becomes consultant for California Bureau of Investigation team working with team leader Teresa Lisbon(Robin Tunney), stone faced investigator Kibble Cho (Tim Kang), kind but disturbed bomber expert Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman), and hot, immature rookie Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti). He gave up his work of being a physic when a serial killer name Red John kills his daughter and wife after Patrick humiliates Red John on national TV. With troubled past, Patrick uses his skill to help CBI close crime cases and tries to get closer to Red John to revenge his family's death. But he's not using his power of being a psychic, there is no such thing as psychic. But what Patrick Jane is good at observing things and making a educated guess to narrow down the suspects and till he finds the perfect evidence or till criminal reviles his identity. Patrick Jane is a smart man with composer; almost reminds you of Sherlock Holmes(Not that clumsy, low class, fighting, Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes but Sir Conan Doyle's calm and cool Sherlock Holmes). But this story is more interesting than just having some ex-psychic as some consultant for CBI, we have serial killer name Red John who is standing toe to toe, maybe above Patrick Jane. This Red John character, like every other serial killer, leaves his mark and it's not such a friendly one even though it's a smiley face. He always draws a smiley face with victims blood but want you to see the smiley sign before you see the body, so you know who have strike. Ahhh, it's like Sherlock Holmes going against Arsene Lupin; these two are meant to go against each other.
Now, I love this show. If I didn't I would not take my time to write a blog about it. This show is interesting, entertaining, exciting, and all the emotions you get from watching a mystery story. But it's not like CSI, no no no. This is actual detective work where you follow evidence and clues and seek the truth, rather than being stuck in a lab for hours. I highly recommend this show for any mystery story seekers. It's in season 4 right now but, I highly recommend going to your local blockbuster and renting the previous 3 season. Trust me, you want to start from the beginning.
