Top 10 Mystery/ Detective Movies
There are so many movies that are labeled "Crime/ Mystery" movies, but ,to me, having a story about a detective or cop doesn't always mean it's a Mystery/ Detective story. Great detective story doesn't tell you who the killer is and how killer did it. NO, it does not. Great detective story tells you about the crime that happened, suspects, and it solves the crime with you; not tell you who the killer is. So, as a detective story fanatic, here is my Top 10 Detective/ Mystery movies:
1) Righteous Kill: Starting Al Pacino and Robert De Niro as two, old -time, NYC detectives. Let's see, if you can figure out who the real killer is before the movie tells you.
2) Seven: Starting Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. Morgan Freeman is an old time detective who is about to retire but takes on a last case that is dealing with a serial killer. Brad Pitt comes off as a rookie detective who is unwise and have no patience. Remember the 7 deadly sins.
3) Sherlock Holmes: ....I hate that I put this movie on this list but it does have a great "detective story" ending where he breaks down all the evidence to find the true killer. I just really hate that, they made an action film out of it with Sherlock Holmes looking like a Sociopath with ADD(Which he was not, he was more calm and composed person).
4) 12 Angry Men: Now here is a great detective story. The movie doesn't have gruesome crime scenes nor detective that lead you to the answer; however, the movie has a case to solve. The movie is about 12 juries whom are selected to pass the verdict on a murder case. 12 men with 12 different personalities and 12 different aspects; it is a great movie
5) Angels & Demon: Dan Brown's squeal to the book "Da Vinci Code", Angels & Demons is about Illuminati and Vatican's catholic church movement. Starting Tom Hanks; the movie give you a hint of secret society and it's relation to the church.
6) Columbus Circle: This movie was not famous, but it surely was a great movie. Story that dwells around a buildings murder and it's conspiracy; the movie is thrilling and mysterious with limited information that is shared in the beginning of the movie. Strongly recommend
7) The Girl with Dragon Tattoo: I'm sure that I watched a different version of this movie because I watched the one without Daniel Craig. However, this movie surely was gruesome and it's one of movie that kept me up from sleeping (Not many movies have done that to me). It's gruesome, I can surely tell you that; but this movie surely has it's detective essence of it.
8) Smokin' Aces: You wouldn't think this movie is Mystery or Detective story but the story line will surely provide you that, it is. Many shooting s and killings but at the end it will all make sense.
9) Ninth Gate: For all the religious people, please avoid this movie as it is movie based about Devil worshiping. Starting Johnny Depp as kind of "Book Detective", he gets hired by a wealthy professor with his thirst to find an authentic copy of the book "Ninth Gate".
10) Chinatown: Movie that came out in1974; it's about a private detective who is hired by a woman to investigate on her husband.
