Album to Check Out: Fabolous - Soul Tape

From Watch the Throne to Carter IV, our ear drum has been almost on a preset to hear these rappers voice and rap along like kids who are pledging. I am not going to lie and tell you those two albums are horrible cause I do like both of albums, but the media sense of it kinda killed it for me that I rather hear something unique and more original. Kinda like you are sick of drinking Coke so you try drinking water with cucumber and you kinda like it and later on you will be in love with it. Well that is exactly how I feel when I listen to Fabolous's mix tape: Soul Tape (2011).

It's almost the same reason why I love Jay-Z's Blueprint 3, more sophisticated rather than just some random gibberish  these new rappers talking about. Fabolous has always been one of the rappers who is great with metaphors and word plays, but I do think that on this mix tape, he took it to another level with the word plays. Also, I LOVE the jazzy instruments/ beats he chose for this album. It puts that class both Jay-Z and Fab delivers......I guess it's a Brooklyn thing. But album does a great job bringing that "old school mafia" vibe with more than just violence but with love stories, struggle, and everyday hustle.

To me, this album is like fresh air to my lung, or in musical way, fresh sound to my eardrum. The single on the album "Ya'll don't hear me though" (Track 8) featuring Red Cafe is he's word plays are so sophisticated but fun to follow, this song has to be the radio play song. He quotes "Sometimes I amaze/ Sometimes I disappoint/ Sometimes I blow this paper like a joint/ Sometimes I look at the change like just some coins/ Like Shaq at the line, you probably missed the point". He really out did himself on that first line. Another song that has got me giggling like a little school girl with amaze was "Wolves in a Sheep clothing"  (Track 2) featuring Paul Cain. If you want word play, this song definitely proves Fab is one of the best. He quotes "I'm on my A game, never on that B shit/ You on that B(lood) shit, never gonna B(be) shit. That's how I C(see) shit, cause I am D(the) shit. True story like that Hollywood E shit. I say F(uck) niggas cause I'm on some G(angster) shit. Yeah, that red and green stripe, double G(ucci) shit". How clever is this man?

Well even with all the descriptions I write, it still won't be the same till you listen to the album. Fabolous: SOUL Tape is most definitely recommended.
